Evidence-based ingredients, backed by research
Splendid Nutrition is dedicated to bringing you functional foods with evidence-based ingredients, backed by findings from nutritional research. Our products have to work for you, which is why we are selective during the formulation process to ensure the effectiveness of every active ingredient in the product. If it doesn’t work, we don’t use it.
We are also sticklers for quality and safety, which is why our ingredients are Generally Regarded as Safe (GRAS) by the Food and Drug Administration, rigorously tested throughout the manufacturing process, and proudly made in a CGMP-certified manufacturing facility in the United States.
Caffeine is one of the most celebrated and widely used mind-enhancing substances in the world. A wide body of scientific research shows that caffeine is effective at improving alertness, attention, mood, reaction time, and even physical performance. Caffeine is also present in many organic foods, and is found naturally in over 60 plants.
L-Theanine is an amino acid found naturally in many varieties of teas and mushrooms, and appreciated for its ability to promote relaxation without sedation. L-Theanine has also been shown to reduce stress and anxiety, improve concentration and learning ability, increase verbal fluency and executive functioning, and promote alpha wave generation in the brain, which is associated with alert relaxation and creative states.
Caffeine + L-Theanine
When used in combination, caffeine and L-theanine have been shown to provide synergistic benefits beyond what either can produce alone. L-theanine enhances several of the cognitive benefits of caffeine, including attentiveness, alertness, task-switching, reaction time, and distraction avoidance. The combination has demonstrated improved performance in tests of word recognition, visual information processing, as well as mood improvement.
In addition, the calming effects of L-theanine have been shown to offset unwanted side effects that some experience with caffeine over-stimulation, including jitteriness, anxiety, stress, and irritability. It does this in part by mitigating the elevated blood pressure and cerebral vascular restriction caused by caffeine.
L-Tyrosine is an amino acid found in various foods that assists in the production of dopamine, noradrenaline, and epinephrine, and has been studied in military combat training for its ability to reduce stress and improve mental performance in high pressure or stressful situations.
Studies have shown that L-Tyrosine improves cognitive flexibility during task-switching, and can act as a cognitive enhancer by improving accuracy and sustaining working memory and information processing in subjects facing competing demands or heavy cognitive loads.
Acetyl-L-Carnitine (ALCAR) is an amino acid produced naturally in the body and found in many foods, and has been studied extensively for its general neuroprotective properties and its important role in mitochondrial energy production. ALCAR crosses the blood brain barrier to support healthy acetylcholine levels, which are integral to memory, learning, computation, analysis and a range of other cognitive functioning. ALCAR also benefits the brain as an antioxidant by reducing signs of oxidative stress and removing toxins, and has been shown to support synaptic transmission and improve learning capacity.
ALCAR has also been shown to be effective at promoting happiness and wellbeing by decreasing symptoms of depression. Research has provided evidence that ALCAR improves mental fatigue, attention and concentration for those experiencing chronic fatigue, and can also help delay the onset of age-related cognitive decline. In addition, ALCAR has shown to significantly improve cognition for those with cognitive impairments, dementia, and mild Alzheimer’s disease, as well as improve attention in children with ADHD.
Choline is an essential nutrient required for many functions in the body, particularly in the brain, where it serves as a precursor to acetylcholine, a key neurotransmitter that facilitates mental focus, learning, memory, and other primary brain functions. Choline is also a precursor for phosphatidylcholine, a structural component of cell membranes of the neurons in the brain.
CDP Choline (or citicoline) also supports dopamine levels, mitochondrial function, and energy production in the brain. Choline has been shown to support and protect various forms of cognitive functioning over time, including improved attention, motor speed, impulse control, and memory.
